Michigan State Queens Championships
Westgate Bowl - April 18-19
Congratulations to our own Robin Orlikowski on winning the Women's State Queens tournament.  This year the tournament was held at Westgate Bowl.  Each year it moves around the state and hadn't been in Grand Rapids since 2007. Forty nine bowlers from around the state and one from Canada participated.  The tournament began with a four game block at 10:00 am and a 2nd block of four games at 2:00 pm.  During the first block there were three 300 games.  One by Sherry Verespej from Monroe (who also had a 298 later in the day).  And Julie Oczepek from Reese who rolled back-to-back 300 games.  Nice bowling ladies!!  The top 12 qualifiers game back to bowl a 3rd block of four games at 6:00 pm.  From there they cut to the top 8 that would return on Sunday morning for head to head match play session with the top 4 going into the step ladder finals.  Those were Julie Halstead vs Jodi Montgomery 245-182, Lisa Bishop vs Julie Halstead, 244-211.  And then Robin Orlikowski bowled Lisa  Bishop for the title, 242-214.  With Robin coming out on top to win the Queens tiara and $1500.00.  A small reception was held afterwards to honor the queen and her court.
