Greater Grand Rapids USBC AssociationIssue No. 14-1

Dear Bowler,

Happy New Year!!!  Have you seen enough cold & snow yet?  Let's hope for sunny days ahead as we move into the busiest part of the tournament season.

Currently the City Mixed Doubles Tournament is underway at Fairlanes. We hope you can all join us and continue to make this tournament bigger and better.

The State Tournament kicked off last weekend in Muskegon, and the National Tournament is set to start soon also.  The City Championship Tournament will open on March 15, 2014 at Lincoln Lanes.  The schedule will be on the website very soon.  We hope to increase our participation numbers again this year, so ask a friend to bowl and put a team together.  See you on the lanes!

Sincerely,
Greater Grand Rapids USBC Association

Tom Troszok rolled a Sport 300 game on the Chameleon pattern in the Friday night PBA Experience league at Northfield Lanes.  His scores were 209, 300, and 222 for a nice 731 series.  Tom's 300 is just the 2nd perfect game on a Sport condition in Grand Rapids.

We would also like to congratulate Melissa Smith on bowling her 1st 800 series.  Melissa was bowling at Paragon and fired games of 300, 298, and 258 for an amazing 856 series. Just two weeks later she bowled her 2nd 800 series. This one was an 845 effort at Spectrum Lanes. Her 856 is a new women's city record.

The USBC record for lowest game with 9 strikes is 176.  Bryan Hunsche of Akron, Ohio accomplished this feat Nov. 30, 2004 with frames of X 9-0 X X X X 0-0 X 9-0 XXX.
